How To Look After Your Tattoo

Whether you're being tattooed for the first time or have been tattooed many times before, it’s important to be aware of aftercare procedures to ensure that your tattoo heals correctly.

Follow these steps to help your tattoo heal quickly and stay vibrant!

Your tattoo is going to feel like/heal similarly to a sunburn. It’s going to be sore, swollen and tender for a few days, then itchy and flakey. Once all the flaking/skin has come off, the tattoo is healed!

You will need to purchase an aftercare cream. I recommend After Inked tattoo moisturiser which can be bought from the studio

The first day…

Take the plastic cover off after 2 hours. With clean hands, wash the tattoo in warm soapy water. Do not use perfumed or fragrant soap. Just a basic soap like Pears or Dove will be fine. Towel dry the tattoo (with a clean towel) and let the tattoo air out for the evening/night. Please be aware (while sleeping) you may get some blood or ink on your bed sheets. This is completely normal.

The day after…

Clean the tattoo the following morning, towel dry and let the tattoo air for 10-15mins without covering. Apply a thin amount of After Inked tattoo moisturiser to the whole tattoo. The cream is thick so try to spread it out evenly across the tattoo. Take your time and don’t use too much! It should be applied like a moisturiser. Shiny on the surface but not thick. Apply the moisturiser twice daily for 2 weeks.

The next
2 weeks…

Do not scratch the tattoo. The skin will flake and come off throughout the healing process. This is normal. Let it come off naturally.

Do not go swimming, have baths or soak the tattoo in water for long periods (Showers are fine).

Keep the tattoo clean. Do not touch your new tattoo with dirty hands.
Keep your new tattoo away from pets.

The tattoo should heal within the 2 week period. After 2 weeks you can switch to a normal moisturiser such as Vaseline Intensive care. Continue to apply this onto the tattoo once per day for another week.
